Hey everybody. The 2012 Market season is just around the corner and we’re busy making lots of plans. We have created a survey to better serve our customers and vendors. Your answers will help us determine how successful the market has been and provide important statistics for fundraising and applying for grants in the future. The survey also gives you the opportunity to let us know what you think of the market and how we can make it even better. 2012 Market Season Starts March 10th

Hey everyone. Just wanted to let you know that White Rock Local Market will start up again on March 10th and continue operating on the second and fourth Saturday through December. Check back with us next month with more information and upcoming events. Check out our calendar for the 2012 dates.

Last Market of the season, Saturday December 10th

Our last market of the season and 3rd Annual Holiday Market is this Saturday, December 10th. We will have all our regular food vendors and 50 Arts and Crafts Vendors for all your holiday shopping needs.

Extended Hours: 9 am to 3 pm
12 pm to 2 pm: Hillbilly jug band Fish Fry Bingo
And performances by Jonah Smith and Longfellow Middle School Choir

Our food vendors include our usual variety of local grassfed and natural meats from Homestead and JuHa Ranch; Eagle MountainCheese; Village Baking Co. and Empire Baking Co., Texas Olive Ranch, Grapevine Grains, herbs and winter vegetables from Good Earth Organics and Texas Worm Ranch; seasonal produce; preserves and pickles; Bishop Arts CocoAndre Chocolates; Vegan baker Tough Cookie Co. and more….

We have a great variety of Arts and Crafts vendors this month. Natural body products and candles from Abundantly Aromatic, Bound Essential Oils, Purple Ranch Lavender Farm and Yum Scents. Ceramics and unique vases by Two Clay Hands and One Fish Two Fish.Original t-shirt designs by Shirt Girls, Dowdy Studio and Toomasooba. Handmade clothing and accessories by D.P.C., Wipe-n-Wear, Virtuous Designs, Handmade by Tauntie and Green Piano.Original and custom made furniture by Kuchera Designs and O’Kelley Woodworks. A wonderful variety of glass, silver and beaded jewelry from Aliona K, Bella Rose, Chickaboom, Neke Designs, F is for Frank, Pig Dog Glass and Metah Designs. Fine art includes photography by Sophy Sam and David Anthony Harman. Woodcuts by Shed Print Studios. Super cute baby clothes from Gotta Have It’s, Freckled Chicken and Groovi Babi. Regal cottage has eco-friendly baby toys and Red Ranger Ray Guns has crochet ray guns made just for babies!

WRLM is having our food and farmers market THIS WEEKEND instead of next weekend. Come shop for your locally grown Thanksgiving dinner and PUT YOUR MONEY IN THE HANDS OF A LOCAL FARMER! November 19th Chili Cook-Off Postponed

We have decided to postpone the November 19th Chili Cook-off until next spring when the Solar Truck is available. However, we will be still be having a shop before Thanksgiving market that day.

White Rock Local Market’s 2nd Annual chili cook-off, November 19th

On November 19th, shop for you Thanksgiving groceries and taste some chili at the 2nd Annual White Rock Local Market Chili Cook-off.

Sign up today to be a contestant and enter to win best vegetarian, hot-and-spicy, traditional and most unique chili. People’s Choice Awards will also be given for Best Presentation.

Rule No. 1: Cook lots of good chili
Rule No. 2: Have a sample ready by 11 am for tasting
Rule No. 3: Have a good time!

And…
- Bring crock pots and long extension cords
- Contestants must provide all necessary ingredients and supplies for their space including: 10 x 10 tent; tables, chairs, etc.
- Please provide at least two gallons of chili. 2 quarts for the judges, and the rest for tasters.
- Contestants may start setting up at 9am; must be ready to serve by 11 am.
- Contestants may dress-up their tables/ decorate with signs and props for most creative presentation.
- WRLM provides tasting bowls, napkins, spoons.

Judges favorite and People’s Choice for best vegetarian, best traditional; best hot and spicy; most creative; and best presentation.

2nd Annual Pie Contest October 22nd

Come to the White Rock Local Market October 22nd to sample some fabulous pie… Or, enter your own best effort by October 15th.

Last year’s Pie Contest was a delicious success. There were lots of great pies to sample and probably lots of people with sugar crashes later that day. So… bring on the butter and sugar and let’s do it again!

Entry fee is $5 per pie - each entry needs two pies for tasting. You may enter in the following categories:

• FRUIT
• CREAM/CUSTARD
• NUT
• UNIQUE/CREATIVE
• YOUTH (up to 15 years old)

Here are the rules:
The contest is for amateur bakers only. Pies must be homemade. Pie fillings must be homemade and fresh, home preserved or home frozen. Crust must be homemade. Commercially canned pie fillings will not be accepted. Store bought pies will not be accepted.

Two pies are required for each entry.
You may enter as many pies as you want.
Contestants must bring pies at 10 am.
Judging begins at 10:30 am
Contestants must be present to serve their pie.
WRLM will provide tables, serving plates, forks and napkins.
Deadline for entry is October 15th.
Entries will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.

Farmers Market, Food Trucks and Dog Adoptions, oh my!

Saturday, September 24th come eat a made to order taco and a cupcake, buy your groceries at the market and at the end take home a forever friend! A few local food trucks will be at the market Saturday from 8am – 1pm – Yum Yum Truck, Trailer Cakes and Ssahm BBQ.

From 10am to 1pm is “Dog Fun at Green Spot” hosted by Council Representatives Sheffie Kadane and Jerry R. Allen, along with Dallas Animal Services & Rescue Partners. They’ll offer low cost pet vaccinations, and of course some sweet doggies ready for adoption.

White Rock Local Market will feature our usual fabulous mix of artisan foods – bread, pasta, cheese and more – along with locally grown produce and natural meats. Don’t miss it!
